With tons of great podcast content being published every day, this list is exciting content every architect should listen to.  The recommendations have been distilled down to three podcasts.  These podcasts have been chosen based on their intriguing content for architects looking to progress their career.  They are not all architecture-specific, but lessons can be learned from each.

Architecture specific…

EntreArchitect

Started by Mark R. LePage in 2007, the podcast focuses on entrepreneurship in architecture.  Frequently there are guests interviewed by Mark on the program.  Discussions usually start with origin stories of the guest then transition into innovative things they are working on from a business standpoint.  The stories reveal small firm challenges and innovations. Some issues are resolved by testing the latest technological advances in architectural design and delivery.  Stories from this podcast directly relate to improving anyone’s career path.

A career path strategy story promoting a better work environment centers on how to create remote teams for an architecture team.  Well, every firm at some point could benefit from the collaboration strategies offered by remote teams.  Alongside collaboration and technology topics, these ideas typically dovetail into different ways of strengthening the profession.  Coupling these varying aspects of the profession evokes positive and motivational thoughts for the listener to succeed in architecture.

Business focused…

Tim Ferriss Show

One of the most popular business podcasts in the world with over 400 million downloads.  Tim interviews world-class performers in long-format interviews.  The long format allows for exciting in-depth conversations about guests who rarely discuss topics with so much intriguing detail.  Example guests include LeBron James, Maria Sharapova, and Ray Dalio, which gives you a good feel for the caliber of people he has discussions with.  Most importantly Tim asks challenging questions in the podcast that really get into insightful knowledge and experiences. 

One of the most interesting questions Tim usually asks focuses on big challenges the guests have experienced in their life.  The lessons learned shared by the guests are welcome revelations about life that steer clear of the sugar-coated world most people see through the media.  The revelations usually are relatable to anyone listening to the podcast.  The podcast usually has a length of about 2 hours which is a nice format if you are going for a long drive or need some background conversation throughout your day.

Developer and Real Estate…

Profits over Wages

A real estate focused podcast out of Chicago, Illinois hosted by Ricardo Rodriguez and Matthew Mesick. The pair interview highly successful business owners and entrepreneurs. Most of the shows focus on real estate in Chicago and other parts of the United States. Ricardo and Matt keep the podcast down to earth with real-life questions. Lessons learned from developers and real estate individuals are invaluable lessons for anyone in the AEC industry. Many highlight the importance of developing strong relationships and having a great team. However, even if you are not in real estate development directly, there are plenty of important insights to be learned from these emerging leaders.
